For several days, I’ve been craving soup. Not just any soup, because I eat tomato soup every day. But good soup. I was on the phone with The Chef, he talks alot about food, and all I could reply was “Soup!” so I think he got the point: the girl really likes soup.
I also like food simple. As simple as possible, partly because I am a terrible cook, I manage to ruin everything, even eggs. But soup I’m …well, good at would be to exaggerate, but we can agree on ‘ok’.
The basis of my soup is so simple it’s perfect:
- milk
- flour
- margarine (or butter for people who like a bit more taste than I do)
Warm the milk up, put the margarine in and make it as thick as you want it with the flour. When that’s done, it’s time for “see what you can find”. Today, I found:
- boiled potatos
- boiled carrots
- salty codfish
- shrimps
- crab meat
All this goes into the soup. I tend to prefer so much potatoes in it that it’s no longer soup, and I never eat shrimps in any other dishes than this one. I am strange, but that’s unimportant, right?
When I’m poor, hungry and too tired to go outside, I have to look trough the fridge and make dinner of what I can find. Usually, that’s not a problem, as I tend to buy allot more food than I eat, just in case. Today, however, it was quite empty, but I did manage to find a few eatable things:
- 1 potato (boiled yesterday)
- 1 carrot
- 1/2 onion
- 1 egg
- some bacon (smoked, recommended by The Chef)
- Heinz ketchup
goes into the Wok (yes, I know it’s abusing the Wok, but it was the only clean thing) and when it’s done, it’s good. It was allot better than I had expected, I think maybe the best ‘take what you have’-dinner I’ve ever made – trust me, I’m a horrible cook. The left overs, my cats ate, lucky them..
