I just now have 7 seasons of That 70’s Show on my computer. That’s about the best thing that’s happened to me this week.

I love that show, there’s nothing more to say about that case!

Last night, I saw Silent Hill, by the way. I love horror, even though I, while watching, regret doing so. I get so scared it hurts, but that might be the part I love. This one is rather good, I hadn’t seen it before, but I liked it. It wasn’t very scary either, it was just good in a strange way. Nice done..

There’s something about Swedish film that makes me shiver. They do it so well! Så som i Himmelen is on my “must-see-films“-list, it is without doubt amazing. I won’t claim the French, the Americans, the Norwegians, the Germans and everyone else never makes a good film, but as I said: there’s something about the Swedish..

Some of my friends and I were talking about what it would be like if film and TV wasn’t invented. I hardly ever watch TV, but I do see a few TV-series on my laptop (just downloaded Firefly, we’ll see if The Chef has a good taste in TV-series or not) and I do enjoy films (often also on my laptop).

We all agreed on that a life without TV and film, would at times be boring. Then one of them asked: ‘Which five films would you choose if you got to pick five films that would be kept, and all other be destroyed?‘ That would be very sad for the freedom of speech, and also for all the other good films that isn’t good enough to get on that list, but lets play pretend..

I decided trough my 101-in-1001-project, that I would see all the films on the IMDb Top 205-list, and make a list here to keep updated. Here we go, I have no idea when I saw then, so I’ll just strike out those I’ve seen:

brokeback_mountain_95404m.jpg This film is so sad, so beautiful, so amazing and so well made. It touches something very important in me: my need to be me.

I can’t claim to know anything about what it’s like to be a gay cowboy in 1963 and all the pain that will bring, even if I were gay, I live in a time where it’s mostly accepted. I am certain it’s not always a walk in the park now either, but at least many things have changed the last 40 years, things are better – in our part of the world.

And that’s the point here: our part of the world. The civilised, educated part of the world. Where we see human rights as a matter of course, something obvious. Equality of status is something our society strive for. I have rights simply because I am born, not because of my age, my sex, my wealth, my marital status and so forth. Simply by being me.

I can do just about anything I want – get the education I want, live where I want, love anyone I want (even married men), have the friends I want and so on. The few boundaries I have, is there to protect the society I live in and the other humans who live there with me. Some are silly, some may seem pointless, but few makes a true treat to my right to choose for myself, and none of them truly makes me less free.

I can only imagine what it’s like to not live in a society like this. I cannot fully understand what it’s like to have your status or your worth defined by things like your sex, your education, your wealth and so forth again. But I can feel despair, frustration and anger because I know there are places like that. I can feel fear because I know that with a little bad luck, I could just as well have been born there. And I can very well feel the need to fight for changes.

I believe all people have a Brokeback Mountain of their own – a time and place for secrets they don’t want to share with the world. I won’t say that we shouldn’t, because sometimes, the fact that it’s a secret, it’s what makes it good. But we shouldn’t need to keep secrets that define who we are or secrets we want to share.

All humans are born equal. The world should act upon that..
